Season 1 consists of 10 Full Hour episodes.
For exterior scenes real outside locations were used in conjunction with Blue Screen setups as all the ships exteriors, both in space & landed, are being created in CGI form in Post, along with any other special visuals required outside of live filmed physical effects.
Lost in Space is a production shrouded in the utmost secrecy with the only media relayed by cast and crew carefully vetted by the shows producers in carefully calculated minute doses, just enough to keep fans interested while maintaining the ‘cone of silence’ enough to ensure that the many surprises contained within the episodes will be fresh and new upon release.
During filming, and while under strict supervision, some cast members, primarily Ignacio Serricchio [Don West], were allowed to introduce the public to cast, crew and locations via Instagram and Twitter.
| Largest Episode Budget to Date
Lost in Space’s first season was assigned a budget of around 90 million dollars, making the new show one of, if not the most expensive series ever produced on a cost per episode average, as of October 2017. [This means with cost NOT mostly derived from high actor salaries as with shows with budgets that come anywhere close to or exceed this]
The Lost in Space Production Team has great pride in the fact that the budget has been well spent on amazingly realistic fully functional sets, realistic props and functional costuming [such as practical and believable space suits etc], and a huge amount of practical effects augmented by spectacular VFX.
The Team's primary objective is that Lost in Space will be an unparalleled, spectacular and adventurous viewing experience that will appear as believable as can be made possible to the viewer.
The Team want the audience to feel... "Woah - thats so real" ....rather than "Thats a cool effect"
